The Healthy Strawberry French Toast Casserole is a delightful way to start the day. This dish combines the natural sweetness of strawberries with the comforting texture of French toast, making it a perfect choice for brunch or family breakfasts. Its appeal lies not only in its taste but also in its nutritious ingredients, featuring whole grain bread and fresh fruit.

Preparation Made Simple

Preparing this casserole is straightforward and can be done ahead of time. With just a few steps, you can create a delicious breakfast that will impress your guests. The process involves layering cubed bread with fresh strawberries and soaking it in a custard mixture before baking it to golden perfection.

This casserole features wholesome ingredients that contribute to its flavor and nutrition. Whole grain bread serves as the base, providing fiber and a hearty texture. Fresh strawberries add a burst of flavor, while the custard made from eggs and milk binds everything together beautifully.

Cooking Instructions

To begin, preheat your oven and prepare the baking dish with cooking spray or butter. Layer half of the cubed bread in the dish, followed by half of the sliced strawberries, repeating the process for the second layer. Next, whisk together the custard ingredients and pour them evenly over the layers, ensuring the bread absorbs the mixture.

Baking to Perfection

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for the first 30 minutes. This step helps to set the custard without browning the top too quickly. Afterward, remove the foil and continue baking until the top is golden brown and the custard has set, which typically takes an additional 15 to 20 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

Once baked, allow the casserole to cool slightly before slicing. For an added touch, dust with powdered sugar and serve warm. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of fresh fruit or a drizzle of maple syrup for those who enjoy a little extra sweetness.
